"Rear Naked Choke" Preview

Here's a preview of what's in store for Patrick Francisco's "Rear Naked Choke" Show. I'll be posting up more pictures of artwork as it becomes available.

Dr. Sketchy's Roadshow comes to Dragatomi

Just wanted to let you all know that we will be hosting Dr. Sketchy's Roadshow on Thursday Nov. 12th @ 7 p.m.

This sounds like it would be a real fun event.

Here's a little information on Dr. Sketchy's:

Dr. Sketchy's is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question. Why can't drawing naked people be sexy? The answer is... it can.

Dr. Sketchy’s branches have popped up in nearly 100 cities internationally, but there’s still a whole lot of world out there, so the cast and crew of Dr. Sketchy’s Los Angeles is hitting the asphalt to bring Dr. Sketchy’s Roadshow to your town. Yes, I’m talking to you, sir... right there.

From November 2nd through November 14th, Dr. Sketchy’s Roadshow will be presenting 13 alternative figure drawing sessions in 13 California cities from Costa Mesa to Sacramento. The schedule can be found at

Artist and art voyeurs need only bring a $10 donation and their favorite drawing supplies. Dr. Sketchy’s and the Roadshow’s art-centric host venues will provide everything else (top notch models, refreshments, casual networking opportunities, and an all around good time).

Join Danni Doll, Mysterious Max and Ringleader Bob for a couple hours of creative inspiration and social spectacle as Baby Tattoo Books presents Dr. Sketchy’s Roadshow in your town. Yes, sir, again... I’m talking to you. Come to draw, or come to watch; either way, you should come. Space at each venue is limited, so don't be late.

Rear Naked Choke

Dragatomi is pleased to present “Rear Naked Choke,” a solo exhibition of new works by Patrick Francisco, a New York artist known as much for his promotional antics as for his painterly approach to canvas and vinyl toys.

Like the jiu jitsu maneuver, “Rear Naked Choke” is a roguish attack on the senses. Francisco shows the moody simian characters he’s become known for, but adds new explorations that are stylistically rooted in the former. Predominantly muted color schemes give way to a bolder alter ego that at once reveals the odd—even whimsical—dimensions of the sinister. He has created, according to illustrator Jarrod Gecek, “an amazing little world of chimps with a disdain for public decency.”

“Rear Naked Choke” features paintings, drawings, resin sculptures, and customized toys. Though spanning themes through different media, all pieces are bound together by the same intense grittiness of a tightly applied rear naked choke.

Patrick Francisco is known for bold brush work and innovative methods of promoting his art to the public. He has staged scavenger hunts of his custom painted toys in New York City and, with the help of blogger "Spanky" Stokes, in San Diego. Francisco has shown at a number of galleries, including C. Emerson Fine Arts (St. Petersburg, Florida), Agni Gallery (New York City), and 1:AM Gallery (San Francisco). Francisco received his BFA from SUNY FIT in New York City, and can be often found drawing in Spring Studio SoHo.

We will have a 2nd Saturday Opening and anticipate a great turnout. The show will run from Nov. 14th until Dec. 5th. Opening reception will be on November 14th at 7 p.m. Patrick will also be in attendance for the opening.
